PTS Alert System FAQs

Below are some frequently asked questions (FAQs) pertaining to the PTS Alert System.  Further technical questions can be directed to the Help Desk.

Q1. For what purposes will the information I provide be used for?

A1. The information provided will only be used for the PTS Alert System.  Your personal information will not be shared, sold, or used for any other purpose.

Q2. Will I be charged for text (SMS) messages?

A2. Text (or SMS) messages transmitted to your cell phone will be subject to the normal charges of your cell phone plan.  However, the system will only be used for emergencies and for bi-annual tests.  You should keep this in mind when adding an SMS contact number, as you will be responsible for any charges.  If you feel other forms of contact are sufficient (such as email and/or voice calling), you are not required to provide SMS information.

Q3. Will I be charged for voice calls?

A3. See number 2, above.  You will be responsible for any charges incurred, such as minutes of air time used, for calls to any numbers you provide.

Q4.  I heard my classmate/coworker received a message from the PTS Alert System, but I did not.  Why?

A4.  It is possible that your contact information is inaccurate or out of date.  Please verify your information through the "Update your information" link located at the top of the page.

Q5.  I received a PTS Alert message in my e-mail inbox, but when I clicked the link to play the message, nothing happened.  Why?

A5.  You may not have a default media player like Windows Media Player, VLC,  or Quicktime installed.  You can try downloading VLC from http://www.videolan.org or you can contact the Help Desk for further assistance.

Q6.  What happens after I enter my cell phone information for text messaging via the "Update your information" page?

A6.  The PTS Alert system will automatically send a text message to your cell phone during normal Seminary business hours.  The text message may take up to one business day to arrive.

Q7.  How do I discontinue receiving PTS Alert text messages?

A7.  You may remove your SMS information through the "Update your infomation" link, located above.  Your SMS information will be removed from the system by the next business day.
